You have twenty years experience flying, 3 as captain, 11,000 hours flight time logged, 2000 hrs on BAC1-11 as co-pilot and 300 as captain. You recently converted to fly the Boeing 737 & you were promoted rapidly from co-pilot to captain. You think young pilots have avoided experience of weather by training in Florida & South Africa and they are easily spooked. You have never diverted a scheduled flight in your career. There was already a faulty cabin pressure gauge on the company fleet giving erroneous data. You want to teach this young co-pilot he needs to listen to experience, and diverting is very much a last option.
