Each student must choose one of the 5 main areas of the Pilot Training Programme which are numbered below.
To allocate each student to their area, all five names must be first placed in a hat and selected at random.
Once each student has their topic, the objective is to research their assigned area of the pilot training programme. This will be done by exploring the area and its sub categories which are indicated in brackets after each topic. Sample resources for the sub categories are provided in the resources page. It is important to note that webquesters are not only required to use the provided links and are encouraged to research alternative resources.
The purpose of investigating each area is for each webquester to create an argument (which will also be used in a later task) as to why theirs is the most important of the 5 areas.
You will display this information in the format of 10 listed bullet points. The information will then be presented by each of the webquesters to the other 4.
TIP: You may have to research and investigate some of the other areas of flight theory ie. don't just concentrate on your own. This could be beneficial when it comes to the final task!
The five areas are:
Within this process you will work collaboratively as a group to evaluate and agree on the final order of the five topics. The order will be determined by your group listing the most important topic/element of the pilot training programme as number 1 right the way down to the topic the group deems the least important being number 5.
You must also give a minimum of a two line sentence with each topic which states why the group placed it in this position (eg. if you place Air Law at number 3 and Weather at number 4 state your groups reasoning as to why Air Law is more Important than Weather)
TIP:Why not first all list your own in order of importance and then come together as a group and see if you all agreed on certain areas of importance. This could provide a good starting point for conversation and you may also find there are certain topics you already agree on
By random selection each webquester chooses a number between one and five, this will decide which of the roles below the person will assume in the role play. Individually and on their own each webquester will then click on their title below to show only them the brief of their character, they will return to the process page before handing over to the next webquester.
When all five are briefed they will access the role play scenario link at the end of the page. Here each will read out their character part. Following the scripted role play, and using all the knowledge gained during the previous two tasks. The participants will have five minutes to debate a course of action.
The five roles are:
