Instances like the one on the home page are thankfully very rare but as the stakes are so high, all pilots must know how to react in these situations. Beyond learning how to fly an airplane there are many other very other important aspects that must be taught and learned to build competent, reliable pilots for the airline industry.
This WebQuest will engage you and your group in investigating the five areas of knowledge, other than how to fly an airplane.

The programme is designed for groups of five transition year (TY) students interested in becoming a pilot and looking for a different kind of work-experience. Did you know, as transition year students you are old enough at sixteen to legally fly solo (after passing a medical and getting sign-off from a registered instructor), yet too young to drive a car!!
By undertaking this WebQuest you will:
these five crucial aspects of being a pilot.
You will also undertake a challenge designed to test your response to emergency situations. At the conclusion of the activity you will be more informed about choosing a career as a pilot.
This WebQuest activity offers TY students an alternative to the traditional work experience placement. Its purpose is to deepen understanding of the role, demands, knowledge and skills required in flying airplanes - the exciting and the boring parts. The Transition Year Programme identifies three key skills needed for the 21st century: Thinking, Teamwork and Technology. Undertaking this WebQuest will develop each student's confidence, collaborative and presentation skills, and of course, teamwork and therefore supports these TY Programme objectives.
Enjoy the journey!
